To me, it’s all about collective sense-making. We aren’t really trying to force anything on anybody, especially our own egos.
The timer reminds us that we should consider if people even want to keep listening to us blather on. The list of topics shows us other people want to talk about other things, too. The list of insights and next steps is there for us if we need it but there’s no pressure to put anything there if we aren’t ready.
Basically, it’s a safe way to connect with and learn from each other, spark new ideas, and maybe find some motivation to do something new. Especially when done correctly, according to these folks it can also be quite psychologically safe, including for folks who happen to have a high need for certainty about what the rules of engagement are.

Oh, a discussion page, interesting! Lean Coffee discussions always give me some new direction for my learning. That’s why I especially value that participants can share “aha” moments and resources to learn more, and that is persisted and sent out later so I don’t even have to take notes!
